Living a Peaceful Life
6x6 mixed media collage by Joni James 2022
When I was much younger I used to think every day had to have some big entertainment or activity to capture my attention, or I thought my life was boring. I remember moving to the big city of Seattle after living in many neighborhoods outside the city limits. Thinking at that point my life really needed some real excitement, I joined a scooter club and found myself traveling in large groups with other scooterists riding day and night all over the city to meetings, parties, dinners, etc...then quickly moved on from there to motorcycles. All this activity kept me busy and it was fun. Like reliving my youth, a second childhood so to speak. Eventually with a few years of riding under my belt, and increased caution due to friends accidents, I decided to put my two wheels in the garage and pursue safer activities. In that transition is when the calligrams I created filled much of my time. Managing an Etsy shop and screen printing gave me the creative purpose I craved. Today my life feels much more peaceful as I am retired and my life is slower than before. But in many ways more fulfilling.
Today's collage started with a tracing of my own hand, reminding me to keep living my peaceful life, and enjoy it! After all, it's enough. Especially with proper memories of a more daring life. Proud to say I never crashed once!
I guess I knew when to quit.
