Hamsa Collage and Calligram by Joni James

 

     

     After deciding on the quote for this Hamsa collage, I started to feel that the phrase I'd chosen could well be a mantra for all the people addicted to selfies on instagram, and obsessing about how many views they've added up after each post. I've seen this activity in my own family, and it was the reason I deleted my instagram account years ago. Because for me, it was much too addicting. Making our lives worth watching by others spends too much time concerned with how we want others to see us, at least in my opinion. So, as a remedy I added the continuation to the outside edge to include "with your own eyes." This to me cancels out the concern for what others may think of us, and places the view totally on how we see ourselves instead. 

     My Hamsa Calligram was a custom request that was perfectly suited to a general audience and was sold on Etsy as matted prints back in the CalligramORama days. It's one of my favorites and hangs on my bedroom wall today.
